J’adresse un bonjour chaleureux à Madame et Monsieur
Sewel,
Tout d’abord, qu’il me soit permis d’excuser
Monsieur Maxime Gremetz, notre député.
Madame, Monsieur,
J’ai cru jusqu’au bout que votre papa Monsieur Noël
Helean serait parmi nous aujourd’hui. Nous comprenons bien
que, vu son âge, c’est un trop long voyage.
Je suis très heureux que vous ayez tenu à venir
sur les lieux où votre papa avait trouvé refuge
pendant la guerre, après son atterrissage de fortune à
Crouy. Comme viennent de le rappeler Dany et André, Noël
Helean fut sauvé par Marceau et Robert Fertel et leur maman
Geneviève. Robert est parmi nous ; je l’en remercie.
Je sais qu’il est ému et c’est bien normal.
Nous n’oublierons jamais cette journée. Quand vous
serez loin, en Nouvelle Zélande, vous pourrez voir notre
village sur le site internet de la commune.
Ce site retrace l’histoire de La Chaussée-Tirancourt,
ainsi, vous pourrez voir la partie qui est consacrée à
votre père, ainsi que les maisons où il a séjourné.
Vous pourrez voir également une partie sur Geneviève
Fertel qui n’a connu que son courage pour venir en aide
à deux aviateurs.
Malheureusement, elle connut l’atrocité des camps
en Allemagne. Pour son héroïsme, elle reçut
les insignes d’officier de la Légion d’Honneur.
Elle a aussi été décorée de la Croix
de guerre. Elle est décédée en 1981.
Depuis 1983, une rue du village porte son nom. Notre commune est
très attachée au devoir de mémoire. Grâce
à vous, à votre venue en France, des gens vont se
souvenir de cette malheureuse période que nos parents ont
connue.
Pour terminer mon propos, je vous demande de transmettre à
votre papa l’indéfectible amitié de la population
de La Chaussée-Tirancourt envers lui et notre respect le
plus profond pour l’héroïsme dont il a fait
preuve, pour la France, un pays bien loin du sien.
Je vous invite maintenant à vous rendre à la salle
des fêtes ou un petit repas vous sera servi.
Je vous remercie encore de votre présence, et tout particulièrement
nos amis André Sehet et Dany Dheilly pour leur attachement
à notre histoire et à l’organisation de cette
journée.

Mrs. and Mr. SEWELL,
Until few days, I thought your father would be present today but
we understand that it’s a trip too tiring. I’m happy
that you are here to see the different places where your father
found shelter during the war after his risked landing at Crouy.
As told by Dany and André, Noël HELEAN was rescued
by Marceau and Robert FERTEL and their mother, Geneviève.
Robert is with us. I thank him. I know how much he is touched
(ou emotioned) and it’s quite normal. We”ll never
forget this day. When returned to New-Zealand, you”ll be
able to consult our Internet site. It retraces La Chaussée-Tirancourt
story and you”ll see the part concerning your farther and
the houses where he stayed. You”ll see too the part about
Geneviève FERTEL who helped courageously two pilots. Unfortunately,
she was confronted to the atrocities in the German camps.
For her heroism, she got the badges of Officier of Honour Legion
. She was knighted of the “War Cross”. She died in
nineteen eighty first. From nineteen eighty third, we have a street
“Geneviève FERTEL”.
It’s a must for our town to maintain the memory. Thanks
to you, by your visit to France, some people will remind this
very bad period known and lived by our parents.
Please express to your father the indefectible friendship of La
Chaussée-Tirancourt’ people and our great respect
for the heroism he proved for France, a so distant land from his
own.
Now, I invite you to go to lunch.
